Book List - The Sharpe Books
Click a book title in the list below for more information.
I began writing Sharpe in 1980 and he's still going strong. I never thought there would be this many books - I imagined there might be ten or eleven - but then along came Sean Bean and the television programmes and I virtually began a whole new Sharpe series. It was also about that time that the Sharpe Appreciation Society was founded and anyone who wants to know more about the society and its many activities should follow the link below.

I am still writing Sharpe books and, as each one is finished, I shall add it to the list on this website. This list is in the historical order of the stories, not in the order in which the books were written - except the first two titles which are the short story books (i.e. Sharpe's Tiger is set in 1799, yet it was written after Sharpe's Waterloo which takes place in 1815). The short story book Sharpe's Christmas is not a numbered Sharpe book because the book contains two short stories that take place at different times. The first story is 'Sharpe's Christmas' and it takes place in 1813 towards the end of the Peninsular War (and would fall after Sharpe's Regiment). The second story is 'Sharpe's Ransom' and it takes place during peacetime, coming after Sharpe's Waterloo, and giving a glimpse of Sharpe's life with Lucille in France. The short story Sharpe's Skirmish is set in August, 1812 and falls after Sharpe's Sword. All of the books are available, as are videos and DVDs of the fourteen television programmes and the CD of the Sharpe series music (listed on the Suggestions for Further Reading page). You can follow the links to either Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk if you are having trouble finding them locally. A limited number of special edition copies of some of the Sharpe books are also available through Scorpion Press www.scorpionpress.clara.net/scorpionpress/

If you would like a helpful timeline that covers the Sharpe books, let me recommend one made by Brian Timmins and available at http://www.brianstimelines.co.uk/SharpieA.html . One of the joys of historical fiction is that it leads people to reading the 'real' history - the non-fiction books. Throughout this website you'll find 'Further Reading' buttons that lead you to suggestions for further reading. Like this one - which lists books that I have found useful in writing the Sharpe series.
